Preserving family history data and future proofing with DNA
The One Name Study of the name Hall was registered with the Guild in January 2011 by David Hall of Warwickshire, England, following his interest in family history since the mid 1970s. A substantial amount of data pertaining to the Hall name has accumulated in the possession of David over this period and one of the main aims of this site is to facilitate its preservation.
This site is able to receive gedcom files of Hall families from anyone who would like to preserve their research on the surname Hall with the Guild of One Name Studies, subject to approval. Each gedcom file is given a "tree name" indicative of the family and its location. If required, access rights can be given to enable specific family trees to be updated and edited by the submitter.
The study also includes a DNA project, in association with the testing company FamilyTreeDNA. In recognition of this, the Guild logo appears against the Hall Group DNA project there.
If possible, all submitters are encouraged to facilitate Ydna testing of at least two male Hall members of their family to determine their haplgroup and reveal any matches to other Hall families. A link to the preferred Ydna testing lab FamilyTreeDNA is at the top of this page.
